in search of new year's dress

Last weekend I went for one day trip to Helsinki with my friends just for fun. Since I had only about one hundred euro with me I had only one aim-to buy some dress for New years party. So I was lucky enough to find very nice and versatile dress by Selected that was appropriate for my low budget. The dress is quite simple but some bold hairstyle can create a great look.I already have an integral image in my head how I want to look like for NY party-I also made a sketch of it like I do sometimes(I'll show you some of my ugly sketshes and real photos of my outfits later). I must say that my country is the only country where NY is celebrated more than Christmas-all that you do for Christmas we do for NY. During the Soviet Union our government was extremely atheistic and it was trying to exterminate all traditions and holidays that refered to religion. So here we are- NY is much more important in Russia than Christmas.By the way as Russia is orthodox we have Christmas only on the 7th of January that I'm going to celebrate with my family and tasty meals. All of you have great days now and we are only preparing for the upcoming holidays. Anyway I wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS, my catholic fellows!:) Have a great time!
Here are some photos from Helsinki. We were so tired after quite difficult travelling and shopping that we have taken just few photos at the cafe in Stockmann.

desperately hungry Julia))

P.S. Don't forget about the giveaway that I make!I'm waiting for your sketches:)

scandinavian blonde

Today I've finally dyed my hair.I always only highlight my hair because they are so long that if I dye them comletely It can make them weak. I was making them goldish for quite a long time because my skin was tanned but now I like pale, porcelain skin so for the first time I decided to give a "cold" shade to my hair because it looks better with pale skin. I also had a new hairdresser today that is quite famous in my city. Though I'm quite satisfied with the result I think that my previous hairdresser(he was working with my hair for 7 years already) was better because the new one 1) is too expensive, 2) too slow(4 hours is TOO much!), 3) he didn't work with my hair gently and this it is very important for me. So I think that next time I'll go to my fave old hairdresser.
Sorry for such low quality photos-just wanted to show you my new color. I also colored my nails with a new matte nail polish from OPI-i love it!

I just can't get enough

I just can't get enough of blue nail polishes.I think I will use it untill it will be enough to make me sick of blue))) But now I'm going to find some more nice shades of this color. Here is my small blue collection.

I have a suitcase full of make up products but usually I don't use any make up. Weird? May be,but I'd better paint someone else than myself.

My new babies

Was always dreaming of very bright fall/winter boots and finally I managed to find something like this. I love fuchsia! Now I'm ready to rock my vintage coat from 80's with these babies and add a splash of color to grey days. You should read very useful Doe Deere's post about finding colorful clothes for cold time.

David Koma's hour of triumph

If you ask about russian designers there are not so many names that I think worth to be mentioned though there are several: Alena Akhmadullina(fairytales are the main subjects of all her collections) Denis Simachev(he made a trend out of traditional russian patterns), Alexander Terekhov(he makes very feminine, beautiful dresses and reminds me of Diane von Furstenberg)-till recently only these designers I considered to be really outstanding and competitive with foreign designers. Two days ago I was watching MTV EMA in Berlin on TV and when I saw Beyonce getting her award I just cried WOW! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that she was wearing a dress by David Koma! He wasn't very famous before that and I think that it was an hour of triumph for him. Beyonce is such popular person and she undoubtedly can make a name for him. I'm really happy for David because he is so young and talented and he is from my country(that's very nice) and from my city(Saint-Petersburg) and he deserves this fame. Before his graduate collection(he studied at Saint Martin's) from wich was this dress he didn't have his special style that could make his collections recognizable but this collection is really a breakthrough. That dress was also shown in the last issue of V magazine Spain and that was also a pleasant surprise for me. I'm very happy that russian designers are entering the international arena because we need people that we can be proud of and David is one of them. I must admit that his graduate collection was great but I like even more his new spring/summer 10 collection- It's amazing how he works with colors and shapes! I would definetely buy one of these dresses for myself. All designres that are trendy now should be beware of David because I'm sure-very soon he will be very serious rival for them.Remember my words!

NB!P.S. Oh! Forgot to mention that Megan Fox,Lady Gaga and Sharyl Cole were also rocking David Koma's dresses! Lucky boy!:) It's cool to see your creation on Lady Gaga- she knows how to make any piece of clothes a hot stuff!

Marie Antoinette for Halloween was a success

So finally here are the photos from Halloween! It was the first time when I decided to dress for Halloween properly and I had so much fun! Luckily all my friends were wearing fancy dresses so I was dying laughing when I saw them. I was Marie Antoinette or Versailles whore-what you like better))As I was wearing such crazy wig almost all my acquaintances couldn't recognize me and I liked it a lot. Unfortunately not so many people in clubs were dressed for Halloween though I think that it is the only day in a year when the dress code should be very strict.

My fave photo! Such different characters-so fun!

And who were you for Halloween? I want to see your photos!:)

It can be any color if this color is black

This Friday me and my friend Dasha attended a party held by MAC cosmetics in black style. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprized because this party was really made on very high level for our city-great concept, amazing decoration(ah! these huge purple candles were just fantastic!Want to have them at home but it can be fire hazardous), perfect music(I wonder what band was playing at the beginning of the party...it was lovely!) and cool make up on the models and barmen(first time I admited that smoky eyes and black nails can look sexy on guys:) . The organizers have completely changed quite dull interior of the bar into some mystical space.Good work!
Dress code of the party sounded like this:
London's new-gothic. IT CAN BE ANY COLOR IF THIS COLOR IS BLACK. -Nice!:)
I can't say that my outfit was very "gothic" but it was almost complitely black and I was wearing my self-made embroidered tights that you could see HERE. I was also wearing quite short dress/shirt that I purchased in Stocholm some time ago and my friend Dasha was always saying that it looked like I forgot my pants. Anyway I was very self-confident wearing all this so it was ok. The only bad thing was that I found out that all the Black collection was already sold out! Damn, how could they make a presentation of it when it was already sold out?!Weird logic! So now, Doe Deere, you can be sure that I'll purchase the black lipstick(and many other colors because they are AWEsome!) from your collection because MAC has really disappointed me!(By the way you really should check out her Lime Crime cosmetics because I'm fully confident that you have never seen such weird/fantastic/crazy colors before!).

DIY: let your legs get all the attention

Lately I was inspired for many DIY projects and here is one of them. As I adore nice tights, leggins etc.(because even such small thing can make your outfit look absolutely amazing) I decided to make for myself some DIY tights that would attract a lot of attention. To embroider them?! Why not! You have seen embroidered jeans, jackets, cardigans and so on many times, but tights is even better object for experiments! It takes a lot of time but believe me it worths it!
So you need...
♥ Quite thick tights( at least 40Den)
♥ Some lace(to cut elements from it)
♥ Small scissors(for cutting out)
♥ The most thin needle(for beads) and threads
♥ Some beads and sequins
♥ About 4 or 5 hours to make your super tights
1- Cut out different elements from the lace

2- Prepare some beads and sequins. It's better to put them in some small saucer(Later you'll have only one spare hand so it would be more easy to get the beads)

3- Put the tights on your hand and start to sew on the elements, beads and sequins. Be careful with the needle! Also be careful with the tights because it's easy to damage them.

Ta-da! And here is the result! Nice, huh?

I've chosen dark-grey tights and golden lace-love the combination of these colors.
NB! You are lucky if you have a plastic leg(like you can see in hosiery shops) because in this case you need two times less time for all the process and you can keep your magical hands from injury.

The bog

Lately I feel so bored! You know such periods of life when just nothing happens- today was one of the most grey days. The only place I've been today was university, then I went home, switched on my computer -also there nothing happens- no interesting emails, a lack of posts from bloggers, no fun messages on the facebook-nothing! No events lately, no good news, no suggetions from friends. Of course it may be my laziness but also my horoscope in Grazia says today-don't do anything, just wait. The most strange thing is that I don't even want to go shopping to entertain myself because I don't know what I want! I was waiting for money because I wanted to order something from my tailor but now I have no idea what to order! It feels like I have some boggy morass around me- it sucks me in and the last inspiration and energy throw me over. Probably the reason of it is the season-I never liked fall. I was always associating it with such course of life. Honestly I'm not the most energetic person in the world and when nothing interesting happens I just go out. Of course I'm happy that everything is ok in general but I need some fresh air, some new ideas. What I like about such periods is that I have mood for reading books and for my luck I've received recently The Sartorialist book and it is really amazing and very inspiring. We all love The Sartorialist blog and now I can almost carry it with me everywhere-the book is quite small and I can look through it and dream about dolce vita and beautiful people at university, cafe, subway or enywhere else.

The roots

One day every person starts to think about his/her national identification. It's impossible to uderstand who your are if you don't look at your roots. For my opinion it's some step of maturing and now I'm on this level. I'm russian. A citizen of a country with very rich history and culture but very hard destiny. Lately I was talking a lot about russian culture here on my blog. Many of you told me that it's cool that I'm proud of my country but that's not entirely true. May be it's a paradox but I love a lot the cultural heritage of my country and hate my country itself! Our government was always doing too many bad things to our country- it rob's it, pollutes it, tries to override and humble it. Russian nature is absolutely marvelous, russian people are strong, tough, beautiful, clever and understanding, but at the same time Russia is full of contrasts- ugliness and beauty always live here side by side.
I'd like to know- are you proud of your country? What you like/dislike about it?

This photo was made by my friend but the idea is mine. This matreshka(another 2 dolls are from the inside of the bigger one) was given to me as a gift by my mother wen I was 1 year old. I clearly remember that I was playing with it a lot when I was a child. It had 5 or may be 6 dolls inside but of course during such a long time(OMG!20 years!) some of them were lost. The rest of it is very precious for me and I save it like a relic.

mother Russia

Hi everyone!I'm back from Spain!Didn't manage to go to Barcelona but the weather was so nice and the sea was so warm that I had a great time in Lloret de Mar. Believe me-natural tan is much more precious than shopping in October. Now I'm living my ordinary life in Saint-Petersburg and don't want to believe that the wet snow that we already have now will poison my life for at least 6 months! Today we met with my friends at the photographic studio to have fun and make some great pictures. My obsession about russian culture couldn't not to tell upon my outfit and make up. This photo is from my camera and it's not finished well but I was so impatient to show it to you that decided to post it here right now! Hope you like it!:) More pictures and a short story about my outfit come soon! Stay tuned.

matreshka

If you look at my header you can see that I like everything russian(I'm proud of the cultural heritage of my country) when it comes to photo shoots and style. All photo shoots in russian style remind me of matreshka-the standard of russian beauty. I'm lucky enough to have quite slavic appearance(though I have also georgian roots) and I'm dreaming about some items to create very russian look for this winter- red boots, fur hat and so on. I'm delighted with Kenzo fall-winter 10 collection- Antonio Marras feels russian spirit very well( the campaigh is also one of the best of this season among other brands).
Here is a photo that I really like and that I think can inspire you- I like the idea of creating russian look of items that are not in russian style. This photo is from the most popular Saint-Petersburg's magazine Sobaka Ru. For my opinion this magazine has a great potential and sometimes they make quite nice photo shoots but OMG I'm so tired of all the same faces there- in every issue you see only the faces of the team and their friends-nothing new!
P.S. I'm going to make very russian present (a true fashionista will be delighted with it)for one of my readers so stay tuned and wait for the give-away that will be soon!

sequins for a party

For a long time already I was dreaming about some sequined thing but all the jackets/dresses/waistcoats,etc. that I've seen were not so good or way too expensive. Actually I was dreaming about some amazing sequined dress like from Balmain's collection-short and sexy. I was trying to find some on Ebay but damn! I just can't understand how it works! And I don't like to place bids because I was outbidded many many times for different reasons! So ,honestly, I just hate Ebay!!!When I want to buy some vintage clothes Etsy is much more easy and pleasant because you don't have to place any bids or wait for a long time-you just find the best thing for you, talk to a nice and attentive seller and voi·là!The dress of your dream arrives in few days or weeks(to my country everything arrives in two or three weeks unfortunately) in it's best condition and beautifully packed. This Friday we were celebrating my friend's Birthday at one night club/bar and I just had no idea what to wear because I was bored of all the clothes that I had for some time already but this problem was solved easily because in the morning I got a notification that my dress that I bought on Etsy some time ago arrived! I wasn't absolutely sure that it would fit me but when I tryed it on...I started dancing!)) It was just...PERFECT! Nice pattern, millions of sequins, great cut, and big shoulder pads!!! A true perfection from 80's! And there were also some other nice things about this package- the super-sweet seller from bittersweetdesign also added very very beautiful earrings as a gift(they are looking amazing with the dress) and all this was packed so neatly! With a nice ribbon and exactly with love! I highly recommend this seller because It was really a pleasure to deal with her and the dress(though it's vintage) was in great condition and almost all the sequins were at their place.
This dress was the best choice for a party and I got many compliments wearing it but of course I always don't manage to take photos of my best outfits so here are just few blurry pictures. Anyway that night was just crazy and after that I had the worst hang-over I've ever had! Ooops. And by the way...I feel a special love to braids lately so I'm looking for different interesting hair styles with braids and start to try them as you see.
I hope you are not too tired of reading all this! Have a great day!:)

MAC me up!

Few days ago a girl from MAC store called me and asked if I wanted to come to get free MAC make up(I'm a steady customer there). Of course I couldn't refuse! Though I'm a make up artist myself(and I mostly work on MAC cosmetics) I wanted just to relax in the chaire while MAC's make up artist was working at my face. It was also interesting for me to know more about their products, technique, brushes ,etc. It was a big mistake because now I want to own all the brushes and all the eye shadows that she used!!!But I need a lot of money for all this and it's better to spend them for some new clothes because now I'm still wearing my old stuff and that makes me really sad. Today I went to a presentation of Istituto Marangony(damn!it's my dream!)and a good make up was needed for this occasion. So here I am!Don't you think that this make up looks almost like from Gucci summer 09 fashion show?
The make up artist was using all the products from new limited collections, so here are the names of this products if you are interested.
Eye shadows: Jest, Violet trance, Haunting.
